Aix-en-Provence remains at the heart of one of the most attractive regions in France (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) and is the fourth largest city in the area, just 25km north of Marseille. Aix was the capital city of Provence from the 12th century until the Revolution. Today Aix is best known as a "City of Art" or a "City of Fountains" and is home to many art schools and universities. Dominated by the Mount Sainte-Victoire, Aix was also the home of the famous impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, whose work can be found throughout the city. The Old town in the center of Aix is encircled by a matrix of boulevards, squares and bubbling fountains. The beautiful tree-lined avenue Cours Mirabeau is where you will find many typical French sidewalk cafés and bookshops, which are great spots to relax and linger over a café.

The objectives for the Teacher Training Program are to refresh and improve your knowledge of the French language along with the social and cultural changes of contemporary French society. You will learn and discuss classroom techniques including use of advertisements, comics, songs, media (press, cinema, radio, television, computers, internet), video recordings, games, role-playing, etc. All classes are taught in French. Your instructors will cover methods of teaching literature, grammar, conversation and other functional skills. You will learn how to adapt your lesson plans and teaching methods to specific themes.
We offer a 2-week session in August of 36 hours of instruction, plus classroom observations for a total of 42 hours. The course focuses on innovative techniques for teaching General French. Classes meet Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 12:30pm, plus four afternoon lectures. You will be asked to actively participate in classroom workshops during the program.

A weekly schedule of activities and excursions is arranged by the institute. Activities require an extra fee. Program participants sign up for the activities of their choice once in France. Ask for a complete list of options at final registration. In addition to the excursions organized by the institutes, the Office de Tourisme in each city offers a wide selection of guided tours and events. Activities range from a walking tour of the city or a guided visit to a museum, to a bus tour to one of the famous sights or monuments in the surrounding region. Regularly scheduled departures from the local bus stations (Gare Routière) provide easy access to all of the many wonders that have made each region so popular. Wherever your passion lies, you will find just the right place in and around the city to make your Teacher Training Program an experience you will want to repeat!
